  •  Hi Thomas,

I would say the problem is the GPU (Graphics Card) I thought Ribbon cable to your monitor, until i read it was happening on external monitors too.

I hope for your sake it is in warranty or cheap to repair as busted Laptop GPUs tend to be a costly thing to replace.

    Good luck in your adventures.

  • bad mobo - connector or video chip. if its old, buy a new laptop, if semi new look into repair costs. you are gold if warranty, else might be $$$ to fix.

  • hi guys,

thanks for the reply. has it got anything to do with the RAM? i read in a few discussions in spiceworks that the ram could also be a problem for blank screen. please advice.

  • Does it Have the 'Stamina' and 'Speed' modes? Will be like a switch to toggle between the two.

Try using 'Stamina' mode as this will use the integrated graphics instead. Or vice versa for which ever is giving you the Blank screen.

  • it was in stamina mode only. i changed to the speed mode. still not working

  • Blank screen on boot can be caused by bad CPU, bad memory, bad GPU, cold solder joint on motherboard at AGP/PCI, bad display or bad keyboard (specifically PS/2 or broken ribbon cable in laptops).

    You need more information.

Have you opened the laptop case to do a general inspection?
Check connections of ribbon cables and reseated memory?
Are the pins on the memory dirty (oxidized)? - clean them with a pencil eraser.
Is it full of dust causing the CPU to fail/overheat?

  • If the laptop is beeping when you turn it off this will relate to a fault code so best to check on the manufacturers website

in this case it could be a memory problem, perhaps a module has become loose or unseated
