  • I may be able to help source you some work.  What kind of experiance and education do you have?  This would help give me an idea.  Also how far are you willing to travel and or relocate.  There are a lot of IT jobs in Lower MI.  But I know how hard that state is to actually find them.

Wow, not much going on in the Michigan group ...

I am kind of in the same boat, just different ;). I do have work (I am working for a great company, but due to the economy my hours are being more and more restricted) but I am trying to start up my own small company and found out it is very difficult (at least for me) to actually find customers willing to pay.

I am going to add my profile in the consultant section but was wondering if anybody in Michigan might be able to shed some light on how they are doing in the IT business in the lower Michigan area.

My experience so far is very bad to say the least - meaning I have a hell of a time finding customers. I am using marketing campaigns with Microsoft help, letter mailings, postcard mailings, online advertising, cold calls etc. and the overall response is very low.

Is it me or is it really that bad here in good ol' Michigan?

  • It's bad in Michigan, I'm glad I have a job but at the same time I'm seeing alot more consultants and vendors comming around trying to get my company to outsource and even more people tossing resumes around.

I was going to start the consulting thing too but outside of small in home installations and repairs there isn't much here since people aren't investing in their infrastructure.

  • Yes work in Michigan is poor at best.  I got laid off well over a year ago, started my own business, which was slow at best.  Got hired by a great start up company almost a year ago, but have to drive almost 70 miles one way to get to work.  Nothing close by in the tri-cities area.

  • I too started my own business and now I'm swamped. There is a need out there.

  • I have job as well. However, I put 130 miles a day on my car and am looking for something a little closer. Sounds like Michigan really needs a Spice Corps meetup group to network!
