  • I hate to say it, but I've never had even a sip of coffee (or tea) in my life! My wife loves it and I can make a great cup of espresso for her, but just not for me.

I drink mine out of Schrodinger's cup.

Not sure if it will work for you, but when I wanted to cut back (and, at one time, I completely cut it out for months), I started to switch to green tea after my first cup or two of coffee and then started to swap that out for just more water.

I've known people who have straight up stopped drinking coffee at once but caused them some short-term... shall we say, displeasure.

I used to drink about a pot and a half a day when I was programming way back when. I'm getting on in years, so I did switch to tea for a bit, it's a little easier on the stomach. But I'm slowly going back to coffee in the afternoons. A green tea on an off-duty morning is pretty nice, but I've enjoyed coffee too much since I was a wee lad to really give it up.

  • I'd like to point out that Free and Open Source Software is free, but it's not open source if all you do is download binaries and install them.

It's only open source if you review the code and compile it yourself. Otherwise it's just "free software."

Like closed-source software, if you're only dealing with precompiled binaries, you are trusting that the binary contains no backdoors, malware, or other unexpected/unexplained changes from what it's advertised to do. You are trusting that the provider of that binary is as honest and above-board as you expect them to be.

"But support!" you say? Unless you have a support contract with the closed-source software vendor, the support options available with open source software are no different from those available with closed-source software. And if you require a support contract, you can usually find someone who will provide a support contract for open source software.

The only practical difference between closed-source and open-source precompiled software is the restrictive versus permissive license terms.

I never drank coffee but the other day I mistakenly bought this coffee-flavored ice cream because I thought it was the chocolate one I had bought before. Normally I'd just pass it off but I went ahead and tried and, hey, not bad!

Did you ever buy food by accident and then fall in love? What was it? If so.

Agreed.  Depending on the day of the week, coffee/alcohol:

    • prevents Alzheimers
    • decreases/increases blood pressure
    • kills brain cells
    • improves cognition
    • decreases/increases cancer risk
    • kill liver cells
    • hardens arteries
    • decreases/increases heart disease
    • decreases/increases good cholesterol
    • decreases/increases bad cholesterol

    BTW: I love coffee.

It would be nice to see another fab come "In House" (In the USA). But New York seem like a bad place to try an do that. They will be taxed into oblivion and that will probably be before they finish building it.

I got a complaint that it was too strong because of my belief that if you hold it up to light, it should block it our, else it's a Tea. I've had to use a Keurig unit to make my own, but it still doesn't taste strong enough. Oh well.

The last paragraph on the PCMag article touches on this a little:

Site preparation in Clay, New York will commence in 2023, construction begins in 2024, and production is expected to start gradually "in the latter half of the decade." The first phase will see Micron invest $20 billion, and the project is supported by $5.5 billion in incentives from the state of New York over the lifetime of the project. Micron also anticipates receiving federal grants and tax credits from the CHIPS and Science Act, which the company views as "critical to support hiring and capital investment."

India’s Mars Orbiter Goes Offline, Declared End-of-Life

India better build something to go fetch the dead orbiter and haul it back to earth then. Then everyone involved can stop speculating and get closure on why it went offline. After that it can be recycled or repurposed. It's bad enough that we have a cesspool of metal scrap floating around our own planet, no need to go and pollute other planets with dead satellites as well.
