  • Is this one you're upgrading from a previous version of QuickBooks? Here is what I would try:

    1. Make a backup of your QuickBooks company file. (If it's on the server then you can skip this)
    2. Uninstall the current version of QuickBooks that is already on this desktop.
    3. Restart the machine.
    4. Run the Disk Cleanup app in Windows and clean out the Temp folder that's associated with the user profile
    5. Clean up the C:\Windows\Temp folder also.
    6. Open Task Manager. Go to the startup tab. Disable everything that's enabled in startup. - Reboot the computer.
    7. Go to Control Panel, then Programs and Features. Make sure there is not anything still left over from QuickBooks or Intuit. If there is, uninstall it.

Try installing again. See what happens.
I've been around QuickBooks for a LONG time. There is always something like this happening when you are installing it.

  • Thanks Jeff. I'm out of town this weekend. I'll be back in the shop on Tuesday. I'll let you know how this works out after I give it a try.
BTW, I agree that there is always something going on with Quickbooks. It is always causing problems here. I wish they would clean up their act.

  • Use the system file checker tool

    • Initially, hit on the Start tab.
    • After that, type in ‘Command prompt‘ in the Search bar.
    • The next step is to right-click on the Command prompt.
    • Choose Run as admin. In case prompted, Enter the password.
    • Type in SFC/scannow in the command prompt window and hit the Enter key.
    • The system file checker tool will scan and repair the corrupted files.

    This may help you,
    James

  • Hi Jeff,

So far no luck. I have followed your suggestions including both SFC and DISM several times. I was able to uninstall Quickbooks and the Quickbooks tool hub, but was unable to uninstall the Quickbooks Runtime Redistributable because the control panel Programs and Features applet could not find the installation package.

I'm about finished fooling around with this mahine. We do not need it for Quickbooks in prodyction. I was using it to test the installation process. I have successfully installed QB 2022 on two other test computers so I am ready to try the upgrade on our production computers. Wish me luck!

    Thanks for your help.

    George
