That's true and we can get it to print barcodes from Word no problem but SAP is a different beast, unless you can provide instructions on how to install the barcode font's into SAP I'd be happy to give it a try...

  • Have you spoken to SAP?  I'd try there first, and see what printers they recommend.

  • Yeah your looking to call printer resident BC font but you do not mention which BC font.

Print the internal report 'Font List' and it should list the Disk Resident fonts and the PCL escape sequence to call that font. Hopefully yours is on the list.

Put the PCL sequence in the 'Pre-String' for your SAP Print object (after any <esc>E or <esc>%-12345x reset commands), and ensure you have a post string of <esc>%-12345x to clear the font selection for subsequent jobs.

If the printer truly doesn't have BC font support try a new brand.

Here is a primer from HP:

    HP Barcode printing

Now, that being said, this will cause ALL text sent (following the PCL command) to be printed in the BC font until you issue a new font command or PCL reset. How you toggle from barcode print to text print within the same job is going to be interesting unless SAP provides a way.

How are you calling BC fonts now?

I've got a ticket open with SAP along with multiple other forum posts and emails to different suppliers and about 12 tabs open trying to get to the bottom of it, but as far as SAP itself goes I install the client for the end user, configure the connection and that's me done done... I know nothing about SAP after that point...

  • HP supposedly discontinued their bar code modules a few years ago but I still see them listed and there are always third party solutions such as TROY.

We use the Code 39 font which can be installed on the PC (free from some vendors and it depends what type of Barcode you want to use) which will print fine on the HP
