  • Those G8's were fickle for me at my previous gig. BIOS updates solve a TON of problems and you can grab those from MS updates when you hit "view additional updates".
Don't forget to check BIOS settings.  There was something in there related to power saving that I had to toggle too.  Unfortunately I don't have my notes from there anymore so I can't be more specific but hopefully this will point you in a general direction!

  • Ha, first read it sounded like you were having a mechanical issue. What brand of adapters are you using? I use the actual HP adapters and have not had any drop off issues at all.

  • I've had this problem as well with those models of HP laptop. We have many models of the 850 G series laptops, and we seem to only have this issue with the G8 family..

I have this problem when I try to use StarTech USB-C to Gigabit network adapter, USB 3.1 (part # US1GC30W),  I seem to have the same problems if I use the equivalent USB-A product from StarTech.  I do not get these issues if I use the same adapters above on similar classes of Dell or Lenovo laptops.

I've always had good experiences with the StarTech adapters, but that was with mainly Lenovo laptops.

However, I do not have this problem with the HP G8 laptops  if I use a CableMatters USB-A adapter, part # 202026

I've installed the latest BIOS from HP but no change noticed.

I've also tried the drivers from the manufacturers - no change.

I don't think it is a hardware issue, as we are getting this with several G8 laptops, some of which are fresh out of the box and never used.  All were not purchased at the same time, so I don't think it's a production issue.

    I hope that is helpful!
