  • Sorry don't knwo much about the prison telephony but you could always just place a redirect on your POTS line to the VOIP system.

  • Not prisons in particular, but I’ve done hundreds of VOIP installations and have seen it all.

    Two things it could be:
Carrier / PORT issue or PBX configuration issue (cloud system issue)

    To help determine:
If the calls are showing up in your call logs, it’s a Cloud/PBX configuration issue and the RingCentral should be able to help you diagnose and resolve

If they’re not making it to the PBX, then it’s a carrier issue (which, at this point may also be RingCentral). I’ve seen geographic call denies - only from certain areas - when a PORT has completed but failed somewhere down the line (say, a local CO for AT&T in PA).

In that case, most calls were working correctly to the new carrier and PBX, but calls originating from or going through that PA CO from AT&T would fail as they were trying to route to a non existent POTS line (previous carrier).

In that case, I needed to get date/time stamps of when the call was tried, and the originating outgoing number or DID to provide to the new carrier within 24 hours of the call. The time limit is so the carrier investigating can still see them in their CDR/ diagnostic logs. After about a week or two of supplying them with data (basically I’d roll up the list to them every 12 hours) they found the problem, and worked to resolve it in short order. Without that data, however, it would’ve been a needle in a haystack.

    Does this make sense?

  • voipguy_mh makes good points. I would first test by asking a prison to call you hosted voip system - then ask ringcentral if the call ever made it there. Perhaps test to a specific number so it is easy to log.

If it is not making it to ring central then it must be due to the prison systems not forwarding rule. I would then ask ringcentral if you can connect your on site POTS line to ringcentral as an incoming trunk via an ATA. then when the POTS is called it will be passed to the hosted solution.

  • It seems there is a duoploly on the Prison phone system

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inmate_telephone_system

It may be that those carriers have not iadded/ ncluded the VOIP range you are using
