  • It might be better to give a budget. I'd honestly never recommend an inkjet printer these days. Stepping up to a LaserJet would cost more but save in the long run.

    Look at this. https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m479fdw

  • Thanks for that suggestion - I don't know that we print enough to warrant that hefty of a printer. We're often just printing documents to review and sign & then scan back in if docusign isn't available, and coloring sheets for our kids ;)

  • The laser used to give you a lower cost per copy, but the newer inkjets claim to be on par, if not lower. The OfficeJet Pro was a NICE machine, especially for an inkjet. If I were to pick a successor, it would be either a HP OfficeJet Pro 8025/8035/9015e series or a Canon ImageCLASS or MAXIFY around the same price range.

  • Miss my 8600….. moved to the wide page 477 and have the office jet 9020. The 9020 is great home office, if you are doing a lot of printing /scanning and faxing love the 477dw. Had Lexmark, and brother have not held up… for us at least.

  • It depends on your print volume.  If its low, below 500 pages a month, then I would suggest similar to what you had.  The 8610 has a decent cost per copy on low volume, so I'd have to agree with Troy above and say the Officejet Pro 8025/8035

  • We have been using the heck out of the Epson EcoTank printers.
I believe the boss said the ink costs are a lot better then the ink cartridges.

  • I was given/rewarded with the highest-end Canon Pixma from some panel back a half-dozen years ago. It was a trainwreck.

Subsequently, I got asked by Mom what kind of printer to buy - I told her Brother or Epson. She bought a Canon of course, the IDENTICAL model because the Staples person said it was top-of-the-line. DISASTER. She quit calling me about it after my Dad reminded her what I told her to buy (yeah, I didn't want to be in the room for that discussion).

So, I'd agree with the Epson, but not the Canon. We've had the MFC-J5845DWXL <-- Brother 11x17 color inkjet  https://www.staples.com/brother-mfc-j5845dw-xl-extended-print-inkvestment-tank-color-inkjet-all-in-o...

Since the first month of Quarantine, it was spendy so still available. My youngest step-son and family stayed with us for ten weeks, and he printed a MOUNTAIN of shipping labels and neat cardstock graphic ID cards for various of his silversmithing creations. He LOVED that printer, so much so when I found one in stock in an LA store, I immediately told him about it and he drove up from San Diego to grab it.

I've since replaced the black ink cartridge. The only downside is the tiny capacity of the paper tray, which is irrelevant to us. I've bought a half-dozen or so of the upper end 11x17 printers for job trailers that need to print drawings for the crews. That whole line is the least expensive way to print color 11x17 I've found.

    Looking back at invoices:

    MFCJ995DW x 1 <- not 11x17
    MFC-J6945DW x 4
    MFC-J5845DWXL x 1
    MFC-J6920DW x 2

    So far, so good.
