Is it a global spare or a spare for a specific pool?
If it's a spare for a specific pool, it wont rebuild the failed disk if it's in a different pool.
Hello,
I have a failed drive in my IBM V3700 which i took offline
After taking the drive offline i was expecting the spare drive to take its place but it did not happen.
How do i force the spare drive to become one of the array instead of the failed drive.?

Rod-IT has the most likely answer to your problem. If you have a fault tolerant raid, your other option would be to physically replace the failed drive with a blank, known good drive.
The strongest recommendation is to contact your IBM storage vendor. Then then next is to get a cold spare first.
This is usually the case whereby
- Drive was not set as a global hot-spare
- System was set to have 2 Global hot-spares instead of 1 (this may enforce a always have 1 hot spare unless manual override via GUI or command)
- The failed drive is still in use (the failure is only predictive failure)
- The failed drive is still in use (the rebuild or failover failed)
There is something that my storage engineers did especially if they have checked and confirmed that the hot spare was configured as global hot-spare. But I only recommend you do that if you have a cold spare.
- Since that HDD have failed, remove it physically and replace it with the cold spare.
