Currently have G Suite Legacy (free) with about 50 users for many years grand-fathered and now needs to be moved to a pay for Workspace account. We mostly just use the email component and some content as well.
It looks pretty straight forward by picking a payment plan and placing order prior to June 1st.
Has anybody gone through this procedure already and is it that automatic as it seems to be?

Yes, we've been involved with several of these, both as a Google client and as a Google partner. My family domain has been on legacy since 2009. It stinks to have to transition to paid. But, as a client I was able to get 1 year of Workspace Starter for 50% off for one year.

I've had a similar experience to tsheets. Reach out to Google Sales and explain your situation. They will give you a promotional price for the first year.
Once you accept the agreement, yes, it's automatic. You're not losing and features or functionalities; you're likely gaining new ones.
