  • Yes, one of our departments used to use it.  We have about a dozen licenses for it, but I don't think they use it anymore.

  • Not heard of it before, wondering if it could be used as a remote assistance tool?

Yes it can be, I was looking for remote tools that do NOT blank out the remote side screen.

  • Haven't used yet. It requires installation on the client, which makes it a no go for me.

  • It works on Windows and Linux - similar to VNC.  You do have to install an agent on the target PC.  I haven't tried it on anything else.

The one thing I didn't care for is that the program installs on the initiating PC and runs in the background, in the system tray.  I disabled the service - for piece of mind.  It's one of those types of programs that if I want it to run, I'll start it.

I haven't tried it on anything else.

To summarize, it works and works well.  It's the easiest remote control of a Linux desktop for the average user that I have used.

  • Used it on CentOS/RedHat.

    Very nice tool!

  • What are the remote computers running?

Do you need unattended access? If so, that likely always will require an agent to be installed. If you just want one-off attended access, and the computers are Windows 10 or 11, you can use Quick Assist that is built into the OS.

I use Splashtop for remote support and sometimes still use Quick Assist.

  • It also offers access via the browser (the commercial use products), so you don't have to install any NoMachine client software on the device you are connecting from.

I assume this would only work for attended access, correct?

Does NoMachine have any unattended access ability?

    It does.

Please note that I've only used it to access an Ubuntu desktop VM.  Remote access was available at start.
