1. Author Day
Author Day is celebrated on November 1st. It is a day to celebrate authors past and present, and also ourselves in our own writing efforts.
Related Task: tell us who your favorite author and/or book is and why.
Alternatively, if you don't have a favorite author/book, or can't choose, tell us about any book that comes to mind that you enjoyed, and why.
As far as any memorable books go that I did anything major with I would say probably Hardy boys. They were kind of before my time but I liked them. Another interesting one was "Stuxnet and the world's first digital weapon" by Kim Zetter.
2. Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day is celebrated in 50+ countries on November 11th to recall the day on "the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" that hostilities were formally ended for World War I. Originally called Armistice Day, both Remembrance Day and Veteran's Day (celebrated in the US on the same day) were renamed during World War II, but began as the same holiday.
Related Task: tell us about an ending/new beginning that was a positive move for you in your life... maybe a job, old equipment that was finally replaced, or something else that ended up changing your life for the better.
Alternatively, if you can't think of any new beginnings in your life, just tell us about something that you remember fondly.
I feel like a year ago last fall I ended up having one of the most eye opening experiences of my life. I was always terrifies of horses I think partially because a friend I went to school with was into barrel racing, etc. and always seemed like something bad happened to them. I was always like why do you do this horses are from like industrial resolution era there is a reason nobody uses them. Ended up a couple coworkers started trying to convince me to try riding at one of their farms, took them a while but I finally came around. Took a while to get warmed up to it but then I fell in love with riding. My friend found out I tried it started teaching me a bunch of things that got me more curious and into lessons. I was then like this may be stupid but me and this friend are still single maybe I should ask her out to do something/thank her for teaching me some things but felt it was even stupider not to try. (She said yes.) Later we were talking about riding she was really surprised I ended up trying it at all, then I was asking her about a lesson they had me ride around cones in some odd shape I later realized was probably cloverleaf pattern. I was telling her about this and she looked at me in shock said yep that is cloverleaf pattern for barrel racing.
3. Play Monopoly Day
The 19th is Play Monopoly Day. (Incidentally, the same day is "Have a Bad Day Day" which might be related or not, depending on how you feel about the game.) :) Many board game aficionados point to Monopoly as a bad example of board games, but there is no denying that it is one of the most popular board games in the world. Many people have their own home rules that they use to make the game easier or more fun, and others are sticklers for the exact rules. In our house, everyone had a favorite token... see the poll below to tell us your favorite.
Related Task: tell us about your experience playing Monopoly, or one of your favorite things about it.
Alternatively, if you don't remember playing Monopoly, or just don't like it, tell us about a different board or card game that you played as a kid or have come to enjoy as an adult.
Monopoly is okay, but it just takes so long that is my main issue with it. I guess the other dislike is it sort of seems like normal life which seems kind of stupid too to play a game of fake stuff based on something almost real.
This year Thanksgiving is November 25th in the US, although many different countries celebrate a day of thanksgiving on different days in this, or other months, it is a good day to be grateful for what we have.
Related Task: tell us something that you are thankful for today.
Alternatively, if you can't think of anything you are thankful for, you can celebrate Red Planet day (November 28th) instead and tell us something you like about Mars.
My job, House, Family, Experiences I have had these last couple years (see item2, and others) never thought i'd ever do either of those things but so glad i did. I'm excited to see where things go in the future too. Thankful for all my friends, but there are some like that one I just feel lucky to have that just seem to go out of their way for you those are true friends.
5. Computer Security Day
November 30th is Computer Security Day. It's a good day to pass on all your tips and tricks to your users. Maybe encourage your company to give away a prize to promote security. After all, as cybertalk notes, "a trip to Hawaii for a family of four is far less expensive than the average cost of a cyber attack."
Related Task: tell us something that you are doing in your company to promote computer security.
Alternatively, if you don't really want to get into company policies, just tell us something that you personally do to practice good computer security.
Social engineering training, VPNs, better controls.
