Help me find a solution! We operate a retreat center with 80 lodging rooms. We have wifi in all lodging areas.
For the last few years we have used a cobbled-together Sonos setup with a separate Sonos server for each of our buildings. As Sonos has refined the way their software works, it's become hard and harder for us to make the system work the way we need it to (I will spare you all those details.)
We basically have one licensed album of music we want to play in each guest room.
We want to have a central control panel where we can see the status of music playback in each room.
Each room's playback should be independent of all other rooms.
Housekeepers should be able to press a play button and set volume level when they finished turning over a room.
Guests should be able to pause and play the music at will and set the volume level too.
We need good sound quality.
Our retreat center has minimal media in guest rooms (no TV). We have looked at the solution from Volara before but it isn't clear if we can lock it down enough to where it is only able to play music. Our leadership didn't like the Volara option because of the additional functionality the device has (it's basically an Amazon Echo with special software made for hospitality...lots of extra stuff you can do like accessing numerous music services, accessing other info from the internet, etc.)
Sonos wasn't our choice as the IT team, it was the choice of management that did a very small proof of concept and decided it was well suited for all 80 rooms, management bought all the equipment and then handed it to us and said "install this in all the rooms." With this experience in mind, this time, our goal is to purchase something purpose-built for guest room background music. No more using a good product in a way it isn't intended to be used...keeping things working has been difficult.
