When taking a look at 2020 cyber attacks, it almost seems like the wild west out there. Especially in the healthcare industry!
In 2020 alone, more than 750 healthcare providers were impacted with ransomware collective recovery costs averaging out to $4 billion. Yikes!
And, just recently, with COVID-19 vaccines beginning to roll out, there was said to be hackers from North Korea who targeted companies working on COVID-19 vaccines. At least six pharmaceutical companies in the US, UK, and South Korea were targeted. No one is immune to such attacks.
However, I'm happy to say on the BlackBerry side, we've been able to help alleviate such vicious threats...We helped out a Life sciences organisation called VolitionRx Limited. With the right approach in cybersecurity, they now have MORE time treating their patients and LESS time combatting cyber attacks. I consider that a major win.
So, with 2021 coming up, our approach is (and has been) more of a prevention-first security posture rather than a reactive one.
For those in the healthcare sector, do you have any 2021 cybersecurity specific goals?
