Usually you just need a tiny phillips screwdriver. As for how to get it apart, its a puzzle that you will likely have to figure out yourself. Make sure to keep track of where screws go, there will be lots.
It sounds like you might have RAM that went bad or came loose, you should check that first, in my opinion. I've seen many laptops that nothing will even show on the monitor because of bad RAM. Usually you can access the ram easily from the bottom of the laptop or under the keyboard.
