Spiceworks is introducing new online networking tools – Port Scanner and Tester, Subnet Calculator, IP Lookup, Blacklist Check and IP Reputation! These tools are the first of a whole toolbox full of handy utilities that we are working on to help you do your job without the hassle of downloading and installing a lot of different software packages.
So let me tell you a bit about these tools. The Spiceworks Port Scanner and Tester tells you which ports are open to the internet and vulnerable to possible attacks, scanning for 20 common TCP ports. It lets you know whether the ports are open or closed, which can be handy for testing updates you make to firewall settings or to help you troubleshoot a server that users report as being down.
You can use the Spiceworks Subnet Calculator to divide your IP network into smaller subnets. The tool allows you to either set the quantity of subnets or specify the subnet size. By default, the tool divides your network into even-sized subnets, though you can customize the subnets to the size you want.
If you are concerned about an unknown IP address or hostname, Spiceworks IP Lookup helps you find out more about it. You enter the IP address or hostname and returns the the ISP’s domain, organization or owner of the address or hostname, the country it's in, the region or state, and the city.
Want to know if your email server is blocked or if an unknown IP or hostname is malicious? Spiceworks Blacklist Check and IP Reputation will look up whether your email server has been blacklisted as a spammer, malware distributor, or other reason. Or if your firewall logs show traffic from an unfamiliar IP address, this free tool will let you know if it’s a scanning host, spamming, malware IP, or other threat.
Try the tools out and let us know what you think! What did you like about them? Are there any features missing that you'd like to see? And what other tools would you like us to develop? Give us your feedback below!
