Which Splashtop Should I Be Looking At?

Our current remote solution is coming up for renewal.  I'm interested in finding an alternative.  Splashtop gets a lot of love here at Spiceworks, so I thought I'd be wise to check it out.

At splashtop.com, I see a number of choices and I think I know which I should be looking at, but I wanted to make certain.

Our current remote usage details:

  • Only one person accesses other computers remotely
  • Up to 8 computers are accessed simultaneously (more commonly 1 - 4)
  • Remote sessions are initiated from 2 computers (would like to do so from 3)
  • 50 - 60 different computers are accessed
  • File transfer and chat are used
  • Unattended access is used

Based on this, it looks like we would require SOS Unlimited.  Am I correct?

  • Mark (Splashtop) Jul 29, 2021 at 20:38 UTC

Appreciate the interest and support.  Based on your usage, SOS Unlimited (with unlimited attended and unattended computers) is likely the best fit.  It's priced at $399 per concurrent technician per year.... Spiceworks community can get 15% off (first time subscriber)... just need to contact sales@splashtop.com

    Thanks again for the opportunity.

I was in a similar situation at my previous company; over there I purchased Splashtop Remote Support, plus an SOS license. The SOS license is handy for end-user-initiated remote support on a device you haven't deployed the agent to (e.g. WFH user), or cannot deploy the agent to (e.g. tablet, phone, etc).

For unattended access, Remote Support was my daily driver and it was 100% solid in performance—very lightweight, quick to connect, works as advertised. Licensing is based on endpoint count; so you can have the "Splashtop Business" app (this is your remote access console) installed on multiple computers and even your smartphone/tablet.

I'm not sure about SOS Unlimited vs Remote Support + SOS (like what I had) - you might want to get on a call with a rep to discuss. Reading about it, they both appear to do the same thing, with the key difference being SOS Unlimited is licensed per "tech" and Remote Support is licensed per endpoint.

Best of luck with your project!

Does Spashtop have a non-commercial (free) unattended remote?

I am on the board for a non-profit (no budget) organization.  We recently got internet to the building.  Yes, recently... welcome to 1998!  There is a single pc that we use for book keeping and records that myself and one other director would like to remote into.  I added it to my Splashtop Business account for access, but obviously that won't get him access, so i begrudgingly loaded a not to be named remote on it. Just wondering...

  • Mark (Splashtop) May 14, 2020 at 15:18 UTC

sorry about the delay.  we do give non-profit discount, but not free.  Splashtop is cost effective as you already know.  please contact our sales@splashtop.com  and we will be more than happy to help.  thanks for the interest.

Splashtop Enterprise for Remote Support

This is the on-prem option and was featured in the October newsletter, but I can't seem to find pricing information on it. Being cheaper than Bomgar can still be pretty expensive!!

I'm really happy with the 250 device license we have now, but for a number of reasons, especially AD integration, I'm quite interested in the on-prem option. Do I really have to talk to sales just to get a budget number?

Thanks for the interest in the on-premise solution.   If the primarily reason is you need AD integration, we will be adding SAML support / capability for the cloud solution towards end of this year / early next year....an option is to wait for SAML.    The on-premise actually has a little less remote support features than cloud solution right now, except on-premise does have AD support today.

The on-prem solution for remote support has been in beta so pricing hasn't finalized.   All products, except on-premise "enterprise" product, do have pricing on our website today as we do believe in transparency of pricing.  The challenge I have heard is "enterprise" requirements could be complex, and on-premise sometimes require a bit more handholding in set up and configuration since every corporate network configuration and DMZ et al can be quite different.  Cloud solution tends to be much easier to be up and running without any issue.

Thanks for the explanation, Mark. I wouldn't drop our cloud services, as my Controls groups use Splashtop extensively. It's a little awkward combining internal remote support and customer facing remote support, that and the group memberships not allowing one user in multiple groups. I'll go harass sales, I guess!

Business vs Remote Support Plus

Hello, I am doing a trial of Splashtop and am favorably impressed. Previously on TeamViewer.  My Splashtop trial shows as Business. My inclination is I need to be using Remote Support Plus since I need unattended access to several computers that I support. I have Business and Streamer setup on ~10 computers now.

1) If I purchase Remote Support Plus will I have to do an uninstall of Business and install of Remote Support Plus or does one trial version cover everything?

2) If I purchase Remote Support Plus is there low cost way to get or use SOS for occasional users?

I think we are on the same page, I just need some clarifications. The $299 for 25 unattended computers (what I was planning to purchase) includes SOS (9 digit code) for (unlimited) occasional attended, correct? Pricing pages confused me just a bit.

As for deployments, I'm a little confused by term "deployable streamers/agents". For testing, on each computer I installed "Splashtop_Streamer_Win_DEPLOY_INSTALLER_v3.2.6.0_MY12DIGITCODE.exe". I am assuming that is the deployable agent you are referring to.

On about 4 computers that I will be on most, I also installed the "Splashtop_Business_Win_INSTALLER_v3.2.6.0.exe". Will those installs need to be changed to something for Remote Support Plus instead of Business? Will my 12 digit code stay the same, or change, if I have to install something new?

    Thanks for prompt reply,

  • Mark (Splashtop) Oct 9, 2018 at 21:28 UTC

Correct, the SRS Plus pack 25-computers include 25 unattended computer and also an ad-hoc (9-digit) attended support license for unlimited devices.  Sorry about the confusion.

Look like everything you have is correct.... you have the correct deployable streamer, and your 12 digit code stays the same and won't change.       You also have the correct client Windows app on the 4 host computers....  we have developed the product so it's the same client and same streamer / agents across them, trying to make life easier for users.

Please feel free to let me know if any further question.  thanks
