How does LiteManager work?

Hi Denis, nice to meet you.

in the land Downunder we've got lockdown disease and many remote workers who are iso at home but need to get to their office workstations - domain based line of business software cannot be run from remote home sites.

I have been reading your web site's how-to's, but not getting a deployment path of action, and whether the server is installed on the office workstation and client is installed on the remote's computer.

Hey Denis, thank you for the quick answer.

I'll get started tomorrow night, hope it's not going to need forwarding ports in the locked up Fortinet stuff I'm not allowed near.

    I'll be back, cheers.

For connection by ID the port forwarding is not needed.

Only if You will use direct IP connection by IP address, then need open LM Server port by default 5650

I'm sure it does work fine. I've used Wine for a lot of things, but I was hoping for a program that was native instead of having to use emulation.

Remote access software in Active Directory (without Internet)

What is remote control software do you use ? Needed remote access to users PC and to the servers.

For example LiteManager remote access software for remote administration of computers over the Internet or remote control in a local network, providing remote support to users and supervising work activity of employees.

Servers Remote Desktop Manager, using RDP

Desktops - Remote Assitance - it's all built in to Windows.

Your title says no internet, but your questions says (or advertises) via the internet.  If internet is requried - teamviewer.

Anything else internally, VNC is always a good option.

And WHAT problem are we trying to solve here that Windows doesn't do already?  The short answer to all of this is PowerShell and PSEXEC.

LiteManager as a logmein replacement

With the last problem of LogMein unable to connect with the desktop client from any location now. Very good decision is use own corporate  ID servers and configure independence support system. LiteManager can do it, configure your own remote support system

With the recent price increases at Logmein look at switching to LiteManager it is one time fee and cost very low. $10 per license.

LiteMangaer has Free version for 30 PC.

Simply from a marketing standpoint, I suggest you hire a native English speaker to rewrite your website information. RobertBialk went into your pricing model, but if you want to be taken seriously by the English speaking countries, your website needs to be easy to understand and not sound stilted as it does now.

As for pricing, I personally use Remote Utilities and can cover an unlimited number of computers and handheld devices for about $500 per year.

In this market, your product just does not stand out. I wish you the best of luck though and hope that it does become successful for you.

"romserver_user.exe" tagged by Webroot SecureAnywhere today

Just had Webroot SecureAnywhere detect LiteManager's romserver_user.exe as infected with W32.Trojan.Gen.

File Properties:

  • File Version:
  • Product Version: 4.5

This was downloaded on 2015-04-01.

AVG and 10 others are tripping on this file as well, indicated by VirusTotal:

Your current downloads available on your website are File Version 4.6.2 / Product Version 4.6:

Download Server not require administrative rights: ROMServer_user.exe
This downloads the same file name as the one above it ROMServer.exe, which doesn't specify non-admin rights, instead of ROMServer_user.exe to indicate a different file.

The file sizes are slightly different though.

The VirusTotal results on 4.6.2 (ROMServer_user.exe downloaded as ROMServer.exe) are worse: AVG, Avast, ESET, Fortinet, Kaspersky, McAfee, VIPRE and 7 others:

Same goes for regular 4.6.2 ROMServer.exe:

I guess the only question I have on this is whether or not it is something that LiteManager needs to contact these companies to resolve this as a false-positive, or are the Anti-Virus companies detecting this on purpose (seeing that many are listing it as RiskWare, not-a-virus, RemoteAdmin, PotentiallyUnsafe) just to warn users if this program been increasingly been used by individuals with malicious intent (like scammers calling pretending to be Microsoft, etc.) like many other remote programs have been misused in the past.

The companies listing it as "TROJAN", should probably still be contacted to update this information, unless there is something in there we need to worry about.

I'm kind of wondering why there isn't a Report function on the Quick Support server portion of many of these Remote Support tools that may deter fraudsters from attempting to use the tool in malicious or fraudulent fashion. It would be easy, click here to report fraud. If someone calls attempting to connect to your computer from Microsoft, etc, it would deactivate that server from accepting connections and prepare a report that can be sent to the manufacturer the ID and IP of anyone trying to connect to that computer.

I was thinking more along the lines of something like this:

With an informational popup telling them that these are scams. This would block incoming connections, record the IP address of the scam artists, and send the log to LiteManager to forward to authorities.

Yes, scam artists could still use older versions of your software that did not have this built in, but it would not allow them to keep upgrading their tools when you release new versions. Eventually, couldn't you block all old versions from attempting to make connections to IDs on your network then?

Maybe antivirus vendors would have a bit easier time removing you from their detection signatures then.

    Just a thought.

  • Denis (LiteManager) Aug 26, 2015 at 13:28 UTC

Good idea) ok I thinking about it, may be we invent something in new version. I can not block old version technical, and we have a lot of customers and main part of their is legal users.
