Atlantic.Net, a cloud computing and hosting service provider based in Orlando, Florida, has a diverse client base that spans from small businesses to enterprise-level customers in the education, biotech, pharma, government and healthcare sectors. Many of these clients have varying managed service levels and mandatory compliance requirements, including HIPAA, PCI, NIST, and ISO certifications, which in turn result in a range of patching support needs. Until recently, the underlying hardware was always Atlantic.Net’s responsibility and managing its entire infrastructure was an enormous task. Despite having largely automated processes, regular patching, system updates, application updates required a significant amount of administration and many hours by Atlantic.Net’s team. After evaluating several IT operations platforms, Atlantic.Net chose Automox as one of its central product offerings for server and patch management.

There’s no other way to say it – this past year has been intense. The dramatic uptick in remote work coupled with heightened cybersecurity threats has jolted companies into action, prompting businesses to seek out new technologies and processes. But this fast transition has come with a cost. IT Ops (IT managers, system administrators, and system engineers) have borne the brunt of the shift – working overtime to manage thousands of new devices, endpoints, and support requests.
In the 2021 State of IT Operations Report, AimPoint Group uncovers some of the major challenges faced by IT Ops teams across 15 industries.
- Close to 80% of the 501 survey participants report increased difficulty with endpoint management due to remote work.
- Around 60% report it takes their organization more than 3 days to patch cloud and remote devices and over 30 days to patch remote laptops, remote desktops and cloud servers, which leaves these companies exposed and at high risk for a cyberattack.
- Different from years past, insufficient staffing now falls to the bottom of the list when it comes to factors hindering IT Ops’ ability to perform essential endpoint management. Instead, respondents say their biggest issues are managing and maintaining multiple, inflexible tools across distributed sites.

We'll be holding another Office Hours session this Thursday, January 7th at 2pm EST. Our experts at Automox will be available to help answer questions about the Automox patch management platform and talk through the ways you're managing the new demands being placed on the SysAdmin during these unique times.
As an alternative, you can use a Powershell script to automate the move using an API call that checks the last disconnected date and moves any device older than the number of days you specify in the code. We provide the sample script here on the Automox Alive Community,Opens a new window and provide detailed notes on how to update it for your environment.
There are five areas in the code you’ll need to update to get the script to function:
- $orgID = 'YOUR_ORG_ID'
- $apiKey = 'YOUR_API_KEY'
- $srvGroup = 'GROUP_ID#_TO_MOVE_TO'
- $maxDays = 120
- $logPath = 'C:\temp\'
By default, the script will move all Windows devices older than $maxDays. But, if you prefer to only move Windows 7/8/10 workstations, there’s an alternate IF statement you can use on line 61 of the script.
Once you’ve made those changes, you can run the script on any Windows device using Powershell. If you have any questions, please contact our support team for technical assistance at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Automox t-shirts are great. I got one last year and it is one of the best t-shirts swag I ever received. Material is thick and soft, fits well and keeps it size after washing (very little shrinking). Wish I had more of these to wear everyday.
Oh, and Automox is a great product too, give the trial a spin.. use it everyday 👍
